J.Crew: April 10' Catalog

-Awaiting my new found necklace pictured above, a  J.Crew collabo with Fenton/Fallon. Rugged Genius.
-A bandana twisted between pearl strands and ribbons. A DIY is in order for this one.

-Here goes my favorite trend for Spring, lightly fabricated sweatpants turned trousers.

-I adore this too cool for school look and we must emphasize the tortoise shell spectacles.

-A striped tee modestly hidden under a tube dress makes for delicate details roughened up with metals to give out a little attitude.

For many reasons, I look forward to viewing the J.Crew catalog in the mail every month. The pages are fun, inviting, and filled with playful colors. Couple years ago, I probably could have cared less about the brand. That is until Jenna Lyons took office as the creative director in 2007. The decision to update pieces to fashion forward looks, but maintaining it's signature classic fit was exactly what J.Crew needed to revamp its direction.

The target market went from preppy Caucasians to models from different races and all generations (Lauren Hutton, Erin Wasson), a smart move on any designers part to appeal to the masses.
Makes me want to take the form of the models who appear flirty, yet poised.

Jenna, could I just step into your mind and see how you conjure up the evolving design, style, and image that is J.Crew today? An absolute connoisseur, I'd say.

Blazer: H&M, Top: Forever21, Tights: I.N.C for Macys, Ankle boots: Urban Outfitters,
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs

I've been wearing a whole lot of printed tops with blazers lately. You might have remembered my previous posting here. Same idea. It's the easiest look for me to pull off when I'm pressed for time and rushing to get to work. Blazers have always created a polished appearance with it's sharp details. Because I don't want to be taken too seriously, a fun graphic top is always in my reach too.

What are some of your go-to looks for work?

H&M: The Garden Collection

I've been anticipating the launch of The Garden Collection and it's finally here! H&M as we all know bridges the gap between low and high end clothing at reasonable price points.I jumped for joy when I saw the recent launch at an unbelievably lower than low price. I've always been a sucker for bright florals in soft silhouettes and to find it at an affordable cost is a double whammy for me. Without a doubt I bought the kimono sleeved dress in the first image, and was amazed to find it at $19.95. Can you say deal? Didn't even bother to try it on. Another perk to the line? The pieces are made from recycled or organic fibers. Help the earth by shopping? Dont mind if I do.

LA Fashion Week: Dolce Vita Fall 2010

Brief Interview with Ivy Kirzhner, designer of Dolce Vita

Cropped Blazer: H&M, Sheer Tank: Kimchi and Blue, Shorts: Levis, Heels and Bag: Reiss
Ring: Street vendor
Nail Polish: Urban Outfitters Matte Green #7 (Comes out a lovely seafoam blue)

This past Saturday I attended the Dolce Vita show at the Sunset Gower Studios, which by the way is the same lot where Heroes is filmed. We parked in the cast parking lot while everyone went to the valet. Oops... hehe. I opted for the Wang braid and shorts. It's LA! You can get away with wearing anything or should I say nothing at all? The sequin blazer was the perfect touch to create a formal look to my outfit. Each model strutted down the runway with a futristic visor Lady Gaga is sure to appreciate. Earthtones were the chosen color palette. The collection comprised of tribal printed ponchos, cut out details, along with furs and sharp, edgy jewelry to add the right amount of fiercness. Oh how I wanted to walk out with it all!  After the show, I was lucky enough to chat with Ivy of Dolce Vita about the Fall line which was inspired by geometric shapes accessorized with fierce accessories. She was such a sweetheart! Special thanks to my bf who was a trooper on the riser snapping pics all night and a BIG THANK YOU to The Gallery LA for including me in the amazing event! Additional shows to follow. Stay tuned...

STYLE CRUSH: Nicole Richie

I know I'm not alone when I say Nicole Richie, in my envious opinion is one of the best dressed icons today. I'm so drawn to her free spirited bohemian looks. Also a reminiscence of Woodstock and Native American culture. Long dresses, flowy blouses, oversized basic tee's, beanies with big huge shades and perfect fitting jeans. A signature, no fail look every time. If she knew I could sit in front of my computer all day, like today and stare through her style archives, she would be pretty creeped out. No worries Nicole, I'm merely a fan of your amazing taste. Her House of Harlow  line is also a reflection of her everyday wear. Would'nt mind adding each piece to my collection. Gimme. Gimme. :)

PARIS FASHION WEEK: Vanessa Bruno

Pretty dresses for a night out were meant for day at Vanessa Bruno. Formal gowns under cozy cover up's with thigh highs and combat boots. The fusion of dressing up and dressing down appears effortless. Could sloppy look this sexy? Yes. Indeed! Take a tip from Vanessa and pull out a flowy dress you're meant to wear at night and introduce it to the sun. :)
Also, smiling at the idea of sliding my belt half way over my cardigan. <3

DIY-Alexander Wang Denim Hoodie

As seen on Rihanna:

My infatuation with this street chic look has led me to take actions into my own hands. As much as I adore Alexander Wang, I can't imagine, especially at this point in time, putting down three dollar signs for a hoodie I can easily customize from pieces in my closet. For all the recessionista's who want a taste of the runway, here's the real way.
What you'll need:

1. An unwanted denim jacket
2. A black zipped hoodie
3. Scissors
4. Studs (optional) available here
5. Tweezers (if applying studs). You can also use jewelry pliers.

-Cut the right and left sleeves off
-Make sure arm holes have a clean finish. If you decide not to apply studs, you're finished here. Just throw on your hoodie then the vest!
-For stud application, choose the desired position and hook studs through the vest
- Take tweezers and bend hooks down towards each other until tightly fastened
-The studs should be secure to look like this from the back

-The final result!
DIY Denim Vest, Zipped Hoodie abd T-shirt: American Apparel, Jeans: Forever21,
Boots: Reiss, Bag: TheSak,
Aviators: Ray Ban
